BULGARIA: the assets of Bulgarian insurance companies rise by 6.6% in 2024

The assets managed by Bulgarian insurance companies rose by 6.6% y-o-y to BGN 11.5 billion (EUR 5.9 billion) at the end of 2024, SeeNews reports with reference to the central bank.

According to the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), compared to the end of September, assets managed by Bulgarian insurers went up 1.9% or BGN 220 million.

The assets of non-life companies rose by 3.5% y-o-y and exceeded BGN 8.1 billion at the end of 2024. It is noted that non-life companies represented a share of 70.4% of the total insurance assets.

At the same time, the assets of life insurance companies increased by 14.9% to BGN 3.4 billion and accounted for 29.6% of overall assets.

Securities other than shares made up 46.3% of all insurance companies' assets at the end of last year, the same as the prior year. Shares and other equity accounted for 26.4%, up from 23.2% at end-2023, while the share of receivables from insurance operations fell by 2.6 percentage points to 7.1%.

There were 47 insurance companies active in Bulgaria as of the end of 2024, or two more than a year earlier. Of those, there were 12 life insurers and 35 non-life insurance companies, the source added.
