GEORGIA: Compulsory civil liability insurance of vehicle owners to contribute to the insurance sector’s development

The Georgian government is going to initiate a bill providing for compulsory civil liability insurance of vehicle owners, Business Georgia writes.

"Amid a dynamically growing number of vehicles, the number of road accidents is growing. Hundreds of deaths and serious injuries to thousands of people are recorded on the roads of Georgia every year", the document says.

According to the government, compulsory insurance will contribute to the insurance sector’s development, strengthen socio-economic stability and help resolve disputes related to accidents in Georgia.

From January 1 to June 30, 2024, the number of accidents with serious consequences in Georgia amounted to 2,961, 189 people died and 3,356 were injured, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
