As of now, approximately 50,000 private health insurance policies are effective on the Georgian insurance market. At the same time, the demand for private policies has significantly decreased after introduction of the state insurance system, as noted by the President of the Insurance Association Devi Khechinashvili,

"There are about 700,000 corporate health insurance policies in the country and up to 50,000 private ones in total," said the President of the Association.

According to him, representatives of the insurance market have been requesting for years introduction of an insurance package that can be used in parallel with state insurance - in such a situation, people wouldn't have to choose between private and state insurance, respectively, they will be able to use both options, the source says.
