Experts believe, the main reason for the decrease in traffic accidents is the pandemic due to which travel restrictions were introduced in the country. However, after lifting the state of emergency, risk of traffic accidents will increase again.
According to official data, 168,136 road accidents have occurred in the country over the past decade. Specialists from Freedom Finance Insurance developed a rating of the most common causes of traffic accidents in Kazakhstan, based on such factors as drivers' condition, weather conditions, time of day and driving quality.
In the 5th place they have placed drunk driving, in the 4th - severe weather conditions, in the 3rd - aggressive driving (about 15% of all accidents occur due to sharp speed change, lane change and turns), in the 2nd - night time from 11PM to 6AM (the share of traffic accidents at night is about 17%), and in the 1st place - speeding (in 2019 about 34% of all accidents were caused by speeding). The rating was prepared based on official statistics (cases recorded by law enforcement authorities and insurance companies).
