About 4 out of 10 (38.6%) farmers in Turkiye are covered by insurance while 17% of agricultural land in the country is insured, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Middle East Insurance Review writes.

In absolute terms, of the 2.34 million farmers registered in the country, 903,674 farmers have agricultural insurance. At the same time around 36 million acres of the 213 million acres of agricultural land in the country are insured.

The state paid TRY 6 billion (USD 153 million) in premiums for agricultural insurance last year, as Finans Gundem reported citing data from the ministry. Despite this support, agricultural insurance is still seen as unaffordable by farmers, which means that farmers are producing agricultural products without protection against natural disasters due to high premiums and insufficient support, the source added.
