ROMANIA, UNSAR: Life insurers paid RON 1.5 billion to Romanians in 2025, marking a new industry peak

Life insurers in Romania paid out approximately RON 1.5 billion (around EUR 300 million) in benefits to policyholders and beneficiaries in 2025, according to data released by the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Romania (UNSAR). The figure marks a new record for the local life insurance market, underlining its growing role in providing financial protection.

Romania, UNSAR: Compensation for damaged property surges by over 60%

Insurance companies in Romania paid out RON 300 million (EUR 59 million) in 1H 2025 for claims related to fires and natural disasters affecting businesses and households - an increase of roughly 63% compared with the same period in 2024, the insurers’ association said in a press release.


Bucharest hosts key EU Workshop on ELD implementation and financial security insurance instruments

The Environmental Liability Directive (ELD) was the central topic of a workshop jointly organized by UNSAR – The Romanian Insurers’ Association – and HAIC, the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies. STATISTICS: ROMANIA 1H2025: double-digit growth for the life insurance segment

Romanian insurance market ended 1H2025 with gross written premium worth EUR 2.43 billion, by 6.3% more y-o-y. Life insurance totaled GWP of EUR 508.8 million, 18.3% up y-o-y, its share in the market portfolio increasing by 2 percentage points, to 20.94%. The non-life segment increased by 3.5%, to EUR 1.92 billion. The results include both domestic insurers and FOE/FOS players’ business results.
