In 3Q2012, the Czech Republic insurance market increased slightly, to almost CZK 118 billion or EUR 4.7 billion (0.3% more compared to January-September 2011), as the financial indicators published by the Czech National Bank (CNB) showed, confirming the market trend resulting from data collected by the insurers' association. At the same time, during the reporting period, the insurers paid claims in the amount of CZK 65.5 billion (EUR 2.6 billion), 3.2% up y-o-y.

In the case of life insurance, CNB reported premiums written of over CZK 54.7 billion (up by 1.8% compared to 3Q2011), of which CZK 29 billion were accounted by unit-linked policies.

On the non-life insurance segment, the Czech insurers reported negative results in premiums, the value of GWP being down by almost 1% to CZK 63.2 billion. MTPL, motor hull and credit insurance fell by 5.7%, 2.9% and 20.1%, in contrast with the financial loss segment, which reported one of the most spectacular increases: +14% to CZK 1.7 billion.

In terms of market ranking, CESKA Pojistovna remained the absolute leader of the local insurance market, even if its market share has been decreasing by 0.9% to 26.5% (according to the methodology of the Czech Insurance Association - CAP). The 31 insurers reunited by the CAP collected premiums of CZK 86.5 billion (EUR 3.5 billion) in the first nine months of 2012, up by 0.2% y-o-y, as the data from the association showed.
