Hungarian insurance market revenues increased by 1.96% to HUF 238.98 billion (EUR 808.46 million) in the first quarter of 2012, compared to the same period of last year, according to Hungarian Financial Supervision Authority (PSZAF). On the other hand, in 1Q2012, insurers paid out claims amounted HUF 163.62 billion (EUR 553.51 million), 19.96% more than a year earlier.

Market data published by Association of Hungarian Insurance Companies (MABISZ) show that top five insurance companies, according to market share, are: ALLIANZ with 22.6% of the total Hungarian market, followed by GENERALI-PROVIDENCIA with 13%, GROUPAMA - 9.2%, AEGON - 8.6% and UNIQA with 6.9%.

On the life insurance segment, the revenue from premiums increased by 4.28%, to HUF 119.98 billion (EUR 405.88 million). Unit-liked policies increased by 3.8% to HUF 80 billion (EUR 271 million). At the same time, payments rose by 38.45% to HUF 120.92 billion (EUR 409.05 million). According to MABISZ, on life insurance market, ALLIANZ is the new leader, with HUF 20.56 billion in premiums and a 17.3% market share, followed by ING with 14% and MPE Hungarian Post Life with 13.8%.

On the non-life segment, insurers' income slightly decreased by 0.28% to HUF 119 billion (EUR 402.6 million). Mandatory motor insurance policies totaled HUF 31.76 billion (EUR 107.44 million), down by 5.3%. Paid claims fell by 13%, to HUF 42.70 billion. On mandatory motor insurance policies, payouts increased by 6% to HUF 16.40 billion (EUR 55.5 million). On the non-life segment, ALLIANZ leads the market with HUF 34 billion in premiums and a 27.7% market share, followed by GENERALI-PROVIDENCIA with 17.4% and AEGON with 9.2%.
