KAZAKHSTAN: Insurance market losses amounted to KZT 2.1 billion in April

Insurance sector assets increased by 5.8% from January to April of this year, to KZT 4.1 trillion (~EUR 7.59 billion), primarily driven by an increase in securities. As of May 1, 2026, securities accounted for the largest share of assets – 73.7% (KZT 3.0 trillion), kapital.kz writes, citing a report from the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market.

Insurance market liabilities increased by 8.3% from January to April, to KZT 3.0 trillion, mostly due to an increase in insurance reserves under concluded contracts. Equity decreased by 0.6%, to KZT 1.1 trillion.

In April 2026, the insurance market recorded a loss of KZT 2.1 billion, with a net profit of KZT 29.7 billion from January to April.

GWP in January-April decreased by 2.8%. Compulsory insurance in the reporting period amounted to KZT 99.3 billion, which is 13.7% more y-o-y, mostly supported by a rise in insurance of employees against accidents by 14.2%. Voluntary personal insurance from January to April 2026 amounted to KZT 255.9 billion, which is 3.2% less y-o-y. The decrease was due to a decline in accident insurance by 89.0% and in life insurance - by 24.4%. Voluntary property insurance in January-April amounted to KZT 173.0 billion, which is 9.8% less y-o-y, due to a 13.7% decrease in property damage insurance.

Total paid claims for January-April 2026 amounted to KZT 160.4 billion (~EUR 0.30 billion), which is 21.6% more y-o-y, due to an increase in voluntary personal insurance claims, the source writes.
