Estonian insurers posted aggregate business worth EUR 170.38 million in Q1 2025, a volume almost unchanged y-o-y, according to quarterly figures, published by the Estonian National Statistics Board.
ESTONIA: EKsL: Property insurance total loss from pipe leaks last year was the highest ever
According to the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), 9,100 property insurance claims caused by pipe leaks were paid last year, with the total loss being the highest ever, reaching EUR 23 million. As the Association said in its statement, pipe leaks accounted for 44% of all building property insurance losses.
ESTONIA: EKsL: the number of staged insurance fraud cases was the highest ever last year
According to the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), insurance investigators proved 561 insurance frauds committed last year, with attempts to defraud over EUR 2 million. The Association noted that the number of staged or intentionally provoked insurance cases was the highest ever last year - 160 cases with a total amount of EUR 800 thousand.

According to the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), 472,000 home insurance contracts were concluded in Estonia last year. According to Ülli Reimets, head of loss prevention department at EKsL, over 80% of Estonian homes are insured.
ESTONIA: small insurance amounts lead to disputes over home insurance damage compensation
Last year, over 250,000 insurance cases occurred, and insurance dispute statements were submitted to the conciliation body for 505 of them. 227 statements were related to motor third party insurance and 89 – to home insurance, which is 13% more y-o-y.

ESTONIA: Estonian Insurance Association and Estonian Motor Insurance Fund to choose new CEO in September
Mart Jesse, the long-time chairman of the board of the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL) and the Estonian Motor Insurance Fund (LKF), will step down in mid-September when his service contract expires. A public competition will be held to choose a new chairman of the board, the Association said.

According to statistics from the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), Estonian insurers reimbursed EUR 14 million in employer health insurance costs last year, which is a record amount since the introduction of the tax benefit for employers in 2018, the Association said.
ESTONIA: LKF: motor insurance claims last year caused a total loss of EUR 80 million
According to the Estonian Motor Insurance Fund (LKF), there were 33,700 motor insurance claims in Estonia last year, with a total loss of EUR 80 million. In addition, Estonian vehicles caused 2,400 traffic accidents abroad, with a total loss of EUR 10 million, LKF said.
ESTONIA: LKF: Only 15% of off-road vehicles and snow vehicles have road insurance
Starting last December 1, road insurance was extended to all-terrain vehicles, such as snow vehicles and TRVs registered as all-terrain vehicles. Today, however, only 15% of all-terrain vehicles have motor insurance. If a snow vehicle or other off-road vehicle is used, it must have road insurance, LKF wrote.

Estonian insurers posted 9M 2024 aggregate GWP worth EUR 508.06 million, 6.52% more y-o-y, according to the market figures published by the Estonian National Statistics Board. Total paid claims by local insurers remained almost on the same level as the previous year, to ~EUR 303.7 million.

This year, over 450,000 motor insurance price comparisons have been made via online calculator of the Estonian Traffic Insurance Fund (LKF). As of July 1, 2024, 882,000 motor insurance contracts were valid in Estonia, with an average annual premium of EUR 151.
STATISTICS: ESTONIA, 1H2024: claims paid for non-life insurance increased almost at a double pace than GWP
Estonian insurers wrote gross premiums worth EUR 344.8 million in 1H 2024, by 8.16% more y-o-y. At the same time, paid claims increased by 5.46%, to EUR 207.72 million. The market portfolio’s structure remained largely unchanged, with only very small alterations of some LoBs’ weight.

During the first half of this year, the number of companies that purchased employer's health insurance to cover medical expenses of their employees increased by 11% - 1400 employers have insured 60,000 employees, which is the highest result since the launch of this insurance product in 2018.

In Estonia in the first half of this year, insurers compensated motor insurance losses in the amount of EUR 41 million, which is 13% more y-o-y. According to the statistics of the Estonian Traffic Fund (LKF), the number of motor insurance claims increased by 3%, reaching 17,000 cases.

ESTONIA: The maximum compensation in motor insurance to rise to EUR 6.45 million
According to the recently approved amendments to the Road Insurance Law, the maximum compensation amount for a road accident will increase to EUR 6.45 million from July 15. And from December 1 this year, traffic insurance will be extended to unregistered vehicles such as electric scooters and off-road vehicles, the Estonian Traffic Fund (LKF) announced.
ESTONIA: In 2023, glass damage accounted for 37% of all Motor Hull cases
According to the Association of Estonian Insurance Companies (EKsL), last year insurers paid for 29,000 glass damages through voluntary vehicle insurance, the total loss of which was EUR 17 million.
