STATISTICS:  LITHUANIA, 1H2026: growth slowdown, but double-digit increase in paid claims

According to the market figures published by the Bank of Lithuania, during first half of 2026, the Lithuanian insurance market grew by 3.7% y-o-y to EUR 893.07 million, a result that indicate a slightly slowdown in growth in comparison with Q1.

The amount of non-life GWP decreased by 0.7% y-o-y to ~EUR 665.87 million, reversing the positive trend shown in Q1 while the life insurance market grew by 19.43% to ~EUR 227.19 million, accelerating the positive trend of Q1.

At business line level, the Index-linked and unit-linked class had the largest contribution to the life insurance premiums increase. Several non-life insurance LoBs showed a negative trend. In absolute terms, the LoBs that had the strongest negative impact on the non-life GWP evolution were medical expense insurance, credit and suretyship and MTPL insurance. Growth recorded by the property insurance, Income protection insurance and Motor Hull businesses had somewhat offset the shrinking GWP volume on other lines.

The MTPL insurance line saw a 1.66% decrease, to EUR 183.44 million, reversing the positive evolution recorded in Q1. At the same time, while the Motor Hull line recorded GWP worth EUR 153.8 million, up by 1.8% y-o-y.

On a contrasting note, paid claims increased 15.67% y-o-y, to EUR 410.33 million. Most of this growth was generated by non-life insurance, particularly by the property and motor insurance lines.

According to the Central Bank's statistics, Allianz Lietuva gyvybės draudimas was the largest life insurer, with a 22.8% market share. Lietuvos draudimas (29.28% market share) remained the top non-life insurer out of 13 market players.
