This summer, the number of claims related to vehicle collisions increased significantly – by 63% y-o-y. In summer only, BALTA (PZU group) insurance company paid out almost EUR 3.2 million so far for road transport collisions, the Latvian Insurers Association reports.

In summer months, the number of claims has approached 2,000, and they make up almost half of all BALTA claims related to collisions with other vehicles this year. In total, BALTA has already paid out EUR 6.7 million for collisions with other vehicles in 2024.

The problem of speeding and aggressive driving was brought up this summer in the traffic safety campaign "The road is not a treadmill", reminding that according to the scientific studies reducing the average driving speed by only 2 km/h, would decrease the number of traffic fatalities by approximately 15% compared to last year, while the number of injured may be reduced by 9%.

According to the calculation made by BALTA based on the data of the Bank of Latvia, BALTA is the leader of the non-life insurance market in Latvia. In 2023, the company’s GWP reached EUR 169.6 million. And Latvian residents rated BALTA as the most honest insurer for 20 years, according to a survey conducted by LETA and SKDS. BALTA is part of the PZU group, which is one of the leaders in the insurance market of CEE.
