According to the NAAI data on crop insurance with state support in 2020, "a group of leading regions has been formed, in which insurance coverage of crops is two or more times higher than the average level of coverage in the country". During 2020, in the TOP-10 regions, leading in terms of size of insured areas, 3.8 million hectares were covered with insurance, which is 14% of crop areas in these regions, and in most of them the insurance coverage level has reached 46%, as Korney BIJDOV noted.
In total, in 2020, 58 regions in Russia insured crops with state support (vs 45 regions a year ago). "By the end of 2020, about 8% of the crop area in the country was insured with state support, or 5.6 million hectares of crops (....) For comparison, in 2018 this coverage was only 1.5%, in 2019 - 6.1%. An increase in the insurance coverage of crops in 2020 was recorded in most regions. At the same time, it is obvious that the development of crop insurance requires an accelerated solution. In order to ensure financial stability of the agro-industrial complex at the regional level, it is necessary to insure at least 30-40% of crops. The active position and actions of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Bank of Russia, the insurance community, and adoption of the draft law on crop insurance in case of emergencies are aimed at this, reviewing of the draft by the State Duma is scheduled for the spring session. NAAI supports the early adoption of this law", the President of the NAAI commented.
