The Polish insurance market ended the first half of 2026 with GWP of PLN 47.3 billion (EUR 11.011 billion), up 7.1% y-o-y, according to the Polish Insurance Association (PIU). Life insurance premiums increased by 12.5% to PLN 13.6 billion (EUR 3.167 billion), while non-life GWP rose by 5% to PLN 33.7 billion (EUR 7.84 billion).
Claims and benefits paid totaled PLN 27.6 billion (EUR 6.43 billion), of which PLN 9.1 billion in life insurance (+4.4%) and PLN 18.5 billion in non-life (+5.8%).
Motor insurance remained the largest non-life segment. MTPL GWP reached PLN 9.7 billion, while Motor Hull premiums amounted to PLN 7.5 billion (+1.7%). Claims grew faster, reaching PLN 6.7 billion in MTPL (+7.6%) and PLN 5 billion in Motor Hull (+11.5%). The average MTPL premium remained unchanged at PLN 548, while the average claim increased by 4.9% to PLN 12,200.
Property insurance GWP increased by 4.4% to PLN 6.8 billion, while claims declined by 9.2% to PLN 2.7 billion.
The insurance industry posted a net profit of PLN 8.7 billion, up 5% y-o-y. Insurers also remained important institutional investors, holding PLN 115.4 billion in bonds and other fixed-income securities and PLN 22 billion in shares and other variable-income securities.
