POLAND: only 8.6% of the money allocated in the budget for subsidies to insurance for crops and livestock used in 9M2022

21 December 2022 —
Of the PLN 4.5 billion (~EUR 0.92 billion) allocated in this year's state budget for subsidies to insurance premiums for crops and livestock, only PLN 390.2 million (~EUR 80.28 million) was used in the first three quarters of 2022, which, according to experts, indicates that Polish farmers are still reluctant to insure their crops and livestock, farmer.pl wrote.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, in 2021, 188,431 (including 122,266 in the first three quarters) of agricultural producers concluded crop or livestock insurance contracts with a subsidy from the state budget and insured a total area of agricultural crops of 3,679,891.58 ha (including in the first half of the year: 2,107,737.66 ha). While, in three quarters of 2022, 161,076 agricultural producers concluded insurance contracts for agricultural crops or livestock with a subsidy from the state budget and insured the area of agricultural crops in the first half of the year: 2,537,599.09 ha. This means that in the first half of 2022, compared to the first half of 2021, the area of agricultural crops covered by insurance increased. At the same time, in three quarters of 2022, only PLN 390.2 million out of PLN 4.5 billion allocated in the budget was used for subsidies from the state budget to insurance premiums for agricultural crops and livestock.

As the deputy minister noted, until the end of this year subsidies will be made to insurance premiums for contracts concluded in the fourth quarter of this year, but even today it can be assumed that the largest part of the funds won't be used.
