Excluding road accidents, the largest losses are caused by fires, with an average claim of around EUR 13,200. Floods follow, with costs of EUR 9,000 per case. Smaller risks cannot be ignored either: theft leads to average losses of EUR 2,100 per claim, storms to about EUR 2,000, and falling objects to around EUR 1,200. Compared with last year’s data, the first three months of this year brought a sharp increase in the average claim value: +32% for storms, +24% for theft, and +17% for falling objects.
When looking at frequency, however, vandalism stands out as the most common risk. On average, about 60 CASCO policyholders discover their cars damaged by acts of vandalism and receive compensation every day. Each day, more than 13 claims are paid for falling objects and nearly 10 for storm damage.
“CASCO insurance is indispensable, covering a wide range of risks – from collisions, theft, and fire to natural hazards and vandalism. Many policies also include additional benefits, such as roadside assistance in Romania and abroad, coverage for lost keys, replacement cars, or even hotel accommodation, to ensure the journey continues without worries,” said Alexandru Ciuncan, President & CEO of UNSAR.
“From storms and falling objects to fires or theft, CASCO is the #PlanB for any responsible driver. In short, CASCO is not just an insurance policy – it’s a smart investment that provides peace of mind and security in the face of inevitable risks,” added Alina Bărbulescu, General Insurance Specialist at UNSAR.
