During January-September 2012, the Albanian insurance market experienced a decrease of 0.18% to ALL 6.52 billion, according to data provided by the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority. In European currency, due to the appreciation of ALL in relation to EUR, the local insurance market reported a 0.36% increase to EUR 46.50 million.The non-life GWP reached the value of ALL 5.89 billion, 3% more compared with January-September 2011, while the gross written premiums in life insurance business reached the value of ALL 627 million, which indicate a decrease of 21.5%.
According to the data, in the analyzed period the number of insurance policies reached 911,396 which indicate e decrease by 8.29% compared to January-September 2011, while the number of non-life policies reached 855,875 which is 7.01% less. At the same time, the number of life insurance policies reached 55,520 which indicate a decrease by 24.35% compared to 3Q2011.
During the reporting period, the Albanian insurers paid claims in amount of ALL 2.12 billion (EUR 15.14 million), 34% up y-o-y, as a consequence of the increased number of claims. Thus, out of the 16,378 claims filed in the first three quarters of 2012 (4,168 more y-o-y), 15,686 claims were paid for non-life constracts.
