Insurers have so far received more than 4,800 insurance claims following the weekend storm, according to data compiled by the Latvian Insurers Association (LAA). They already have paid EUR 424,000 for the losses caused by the storm, while total amount of reserved claims reaches EUR 8.05 million.

According to LAA, the number of claims and total amount of losses are still growing, as residents and businesses continue to assess the damage and contact insurers.

"The first collected data already shows that the storm has caused significant losses, but we are currently only in the initial stage of receiving applications and assessing losses. Therefore, we expect that both the number of applications and the total amount of compensation will continue to grow", said LAA President Jānis Abāšins.
