The gross premiums written together by local insurers and foreign insurers’ branches operating on FOE totaled EUR 1.19 billion, 7.24% up y-o-y. Out of this total, GWP by the 14 branches operating in Romania under FOE accounted for about 12.5%.

Out of the total GWP, life insurance accounts for slightly over 21% or EUR 255 million, while non-life insurance weights 79% in the market portfolio, with GWP worth EUR 940.3 million. MTPL is the insurance line for which the foreign branches’ contribution is the strongest: out of the EUR 460.3 million total GWP for this line, about 18.6% resulting from the foreign branches’ activity.

At the end of Q1, the market included 25 insurance companies authorized by the ASF and 14 branches, according to the report published by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

GROUPAMA ASIGURARI, ALLIANZ - TIRIAC ASIGURARI and OMNIASIG VIG were the Top 3 insurers in the Romanian market, in 1Q2025, accounting together for roughly 53% of the market GWP.
