STATISTICS:  CROATIA 1H2026: MTPL insurance made the strongest contribution to the non-life claims expenditures

Croatian insurers collected in 1H2026 GWP worth EUR 1.1 billion, or 6.7% more y-o-y. At the same time, claims paid increased y-o-y by 7.19%, to EUR 636.8 million.

Out if the total GWP, EUR 176.97 million (16.07%) refers to life insurance premiums, and EUR 924.49 million (83.93%) to non-life insurance premiums, a portfolio structure unchanged y-o-y. In the structure of non-life insurance premiums collected, motor vehicle liability insurance accounts for 34%, followed by road vehicle insurance (20.6%), fire and natural disaster insurance (9.28%) and health insurance (9.4%). These figures demonstrate a very stable structure of the portfolio, as they are only marginally changed vs. 1H2025.

Claims paid in 1H 2026 amounted to EUR 636.82 million, which is 7.19% more y-o-y. Of this amount, life insurance accounted for EUR 173.2 million (down by about 3% y-o-y), and non-life insurance accounted for EUR 463.6 million, which is 11.88% more y-o-y.

In the total amount of claims paid in non-life insurance, the largest amounts relate to motor vehicle liability insurance (40.9.0%), road vehicle insurance (21.4%), health insurance (11.8%), and fire and natural disaster insurance (8%). The MTPL line made the most consistent contribution to the claims expenditure increase, of about half the non-life paid claims increase in absolute terms.

Wiener osiguranje Vienna Insurance Group (17.1% market share) led the life insurance segment in 1H, followed by ALLIANZ Hrvatska (15.7%) and AGRAM LIFE osiguranje and (12.24%).

On the non-life side, CROATIA osiguranje maintained its leading position (29.6% market share), followed by EUROHERC osiguranje (15.3%) and ADRIATIC Osiguranje, (13.8%).
