The total insurance premium volume in Albania rose slightly to 7.7 billion ALL in the period January - November 2011 registering an increase of 5.3% compared to the same period a year ago, Tv Scan reported on Monday.

Life insurance grew 30% year on year and now it accounts for 12.2% of total insurance premiums, up from 9.9% in 2010. Travel health insurance also registered an increase in 2011 as a result of Albania's visa liberalization and now it accounts for 10.7% of total premiums compared to only 3.9% a year ago. Insurance companies in Albania paid out 1.9 billion ALL in insurance claims until the end of November, according to Albania's Financial Supervisory Authority.
