POLAND: Almost 45% of buildings remain uninsured, UKNF says

Almost 45% of buildings in Poland have no insurance protection, according to an analysis presented by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (UKNF). The regulator also highlighted concerns related to underinsurance, product design, distribution and claims handling.


STATISTICS: GREECE 1H2026: Growth slows down but still remains in double-digit territory

According to the 1H 2026 preliminary statistics published by HAIC - the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, at the end of June 2026, the Greece insurance market totaled at EUR 3.25 billion, 12.15% up y-o-y, remaining on a positive trend although at a lower pace than in Q1.

According to data, the Greek life insurance segment continued the strong revival trend seen in Q1, increasing by 20% y-o-y to EUR 1.59 billion. The “Life insurance linked to investment funds” line continued providing for most of the growth in the life insurance business, recording a 26% increase in premiums. The non-life insurance subclasses expanded by 5.5% y-o-y to EUR 1.67 billion. In absolute terms, the largest part of the non-life premiums growth came from the MTPL line, followed by the “Fire and natural forces” class.

Of the 43 insurance enterprises, 26 were established in Greece in the form of S.A. Insurance Company, 1 in the form of mutual insurance cooperative, 12 as branches of foreign insurance enterprises and 4 European insurance enterprises operating under the FOS status.

STATISTICS: LATVIA, 1H2026: Paid claims grew much faster than premiums, driven by property insurance claims related to the winter weather

Latvian insurers ended H1 2026 with gross written premiums (GWP) worth EUR 748.33 million, 10.17% up y-o-y. Life insurance accounted for almost 20% of this total, while motor insurance is the business segment with the largest participation to the market portfolio (27.44%). At the same time, the amount of claims paid increased even more rapidly – ​​by 17.6 %, reaching EUR 433 million.
