Of the total premium, EUR 228.3 million came from life insurance, which grew by 4.2% on an annual basis. Non-life insurance generated EUR 1.2 billion in premiums, with a growth of 7.4%.
The non-life portfolio is still dominated by motor insurance. The largest share (34%) is held by motor vehicle liability insurance, while road vehicle insurance accounts for 20.6% of the total premium. This is followed by fire and natural disaster insurance with a share of 9.7% and health insurance with 9.1%.
Paid claims also recorded growth. In the first eight months, insurers settled a total of EUR 841.8 million in claims, which is 7.8% more than in the same period last year. The trend in life and non-life insurance was different.
Life insurance generated EUR 218.1 million of paid claims, or 9.6% less than the year before. At the same time, non-life claims increased by 15.5%, to EUR 623.7 million. Motor insurance also leads the claims portfolio. Of the total claims paid in non-life insurance, 39.9% related to motor vehicle liability insurance, and 21.2% to road vehicle insurance. Health insurance accounted for 11.5%, and fire and natural disaster insurance accounted for 9.5%.
Croatia osiguranje continues to lead the market, with a share of 26.6%. The company, owned by the Adris concern, collected EUR 387.7 million in premiums in the first eight months of this year, which is 9.8% more than last year. Euroherc osiguranje ranks second with 12.9% of the market and EUR 187.9 million in premiums collected, with a growth of 7.7%. Adriatic osiguranje holds 11.7% of the market.
