The Insurance Development Forum (IDF) is a public-private partnership led by the insurance industry and supported by international organizations, including the United Nations and the World Bank. It was established to facilitate and support the growth and development of insurance-related resources and capabilities to help achieve the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and related UN Agreements, collectively known as the UN Global 2030 Agenda.
Membership of the IDF is in line with the Group's commitment to bridging the protection gaps of vulnerable communities and complements the collaboration agreement with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) for greater climate and financial risk resilience. By supporting a public-private partnership open to all industry participants, multilateral organizations, non-governmental organizations, and public sector institutions, Generali will contribute to optimizing and extending the use of insurance and its related risk management capabilities to build greater resilience and protection for people, communities, businesses, and public institutions that are vulnerable to climate change, natural disasters and their related economic impacts.
The Group therefore reasserts its commitment to making the world more secure by leveraging its experience to bridge the protection gaps of vulnerable communities in developing countries and contribute to the UN SDGs.
Membership of the Insurance Development Forum also complements Generali's partnership agreement with UNDP, presented on Friday, April 8, during the inauguration of the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice. Under this partnership, Generali commits to providing both technical and financial resources to UNDPs' Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF), UNDP's platform for the development and deployment of insurance and risk finance solutions to development, and part of UNDP's Sustainable Finance Hub.
