STATISTICS: POLAND FY2024: floods and extreme weather events led to record-breaking claims payments

In 2024, Polish insurers paid out a record-breaking 50.3 billion PLN (EUR 11.76 billion) in claims and benefits, marking a 13.6% increase y-o-y. Notably, natural disaster-related payouts surged by 64.1% to 3.7 billion PLN (EUR 865 million), primarily due to floods and other extreme weather events. At the same time, gross written premiums rose by 8.9% y-o-y, to PLN 85.7 billion.



POLAND: In 2024 UNIQA achieved record financial results on the Polish market

UNIQA in Poland ended 2024 with total GWP of PLN 5.5 billion (~EUR 1.28 billion), which is 18.9% more y-o-y. The insurer recorded a 20.7% increase in the property and 11.2% in the life insurance segment. The group's gross profit in Poland (according to the IFRS17) amounted to PLN 371.3 million, which is the highest result in history, the company said.

POLAND: MTPL losses are growing due to high claim settlement costs

According to Rankomat data, the average MTPL price in January was PLN 693 (EUR 164). The experts note that MTPL rates increased by 23%, and by 41% over the past two years, respectively. Despite this fact, insurers in the motor insurance segment are recording growing losses caused by increasingly high claim settlement costs, Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa (Insurance Gazette) writes.



STATISTICS: POLAND, 3Q 2024: Steep increase in claims expenses following the autumn weather events

The largest CEE insurance market posted aggregate 3Q2024 GWP worth PLN 63.25 billion (EUR 14.75 billion), up by 9.6% y-o-y according to the quarterly statistics published by Polish KNF (Financial Supervision Authority). At the same time, claims and benefits paid by local insurers increased by 11% y-o-y to PLN 36.78 billion or EUR 8.58 billion.

Life GWP was up by 4% y-o-y to over PLN 17.7 billion (EUR 4.13 billion), while the non-life insurance segment increased by 11.95% to PLN 45.55 billion (EUR 10.6 billion).
