The aggregate Q1 GWP reported by Hungarian insurers totaled HUF 571.94 billion (~EUR 1.48 billion), a volume that reflects a rather stagnant status of the market as compared with a year ago. However, due to slight appreciation of the Hungarian Forint against euro, in European currency, the market dynamic looks better, with an almost 5% growth y-o-y.
The life insurance business accounted for 37%, its weight in the market portfoliodecreasing by about 3 percentage points as compared with Q1 2025. Concurrently, non-life segment’s weight gained the 3pp, distributed mostly among insurance property insurance (+1pp) and other classes with a less significant presence in the portfolio. Motor insurance classes maintained their weight in the portfolio almost unchanged.
In terms of overall claims, total incurred claims (payments and change of reserves summed-up) increased by 5.7% y-o-y to HUF 229.03 billion. Life incurred claims totaled ~HUF 121.84 billion, a figure fairly unchanged y-o-y, while the same indicator in non-life totaled HUF 107.19 billion, 12.4% up y-o-y.
