UZBEKISTAN: Life insurers' liabilities surge nearly 35-fold in the first half of the year

21 September 2026 — Marina MAGNAVAL
Total insurance liabilities of the market participants in Uzbekistan rose by 48.2% in the first half of 2026, reaching UZS 4.415 trillion (~EUR 0.32 billion).

The primary surge occurred in life insurance, where liabilities increased nearly 35-fold—from UZS 13.3 billion to UZS 460.5 billion, according to data from the National Agency of Perspective Projects (NAPP), as reported by uzdaily.uz.

By comparison, liabilities in non-life insurance grew by 33.4% over the same period to UZS 3.955 trillion —a growth rate significantly lower than that of the life insurance segment.

Almost the entire growth in life insurance liabilities was driven by a single company, Apex Life Insurance, whose liabilities rose from UZS 9.6 billion to UZS 455.0 billion. The company contributed about 99.6% of the sector's total growth in liabilities and held about 98.8% of the segment's total liabilities at the end of the first half of the year.

The combined liabilities of the other six active life insurance companies rose from UZS 3.7 billion to UZS 5.6 billion over the same period—an increase of roughly 48%, which is close to the market average. However, the companies saw divergent trends.

Thus, the manifold increase in life insurance liabilities across the market is almost entirely attributable to a single company, while the dynamics of other participants remain comparable to the market average, the source added.
